Issue 141: OpenOffice.org doesn't use GTK or honor any GTK settings http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=141 Comment #1 by meqif.kicks.ass: You can force the GTK look if you add the following to your .bashrc: "export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome". XPrompt.Shell feature requests
by lithis 17 Feb '08

17 Feb '08

There are a couple things that annoy me about XPrompt.Shell: 1. When tab-completing a directory name, a trailing slash is not automatically appended. Thus an additional keystroke is required, unlike any other tab completion system I’m familiar with (mostly those in bash and Vim). 2. Filenames in the pop-up tab-completion list are escaped. This makes the names harder to read. Could the unescaped filenames appear in the list and then be escaped after tab is pressed as the string is copied into the prompt line? I looked at the source, but only got as far as finding that the completion is done via bash’s compgen builtin. I coudn’t find in bash’s man page how to add slashes to the output of compgen.

Cabal compiles twice?
by Michael F. Lamb 17 Feb '08

17 Feb '08

Hello all, Whenever I compile Xmonad using cabal, it seems to compile twice. I'm new to haskell so perhaps I just don't understand what I'm looking at: > $ runhaskell Setup configure --prefix=$HOME/usr --user > Configuring xmonad-0.6... > $ runhaskell Setup build > Preprocessing library xmonad-0.6... > Preprocessing executables for xmonad-0.6... > Building xmonad-0.6... > [1 of 8] Compiling XMonad.StackSet ( XMonad/StackSet.hs, dist/build/XMonad/StackSet.o ) > [2 of 8] Compiling XMonad.Core ( XMonad/Core.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Core.o ) > [3 of 8] Compiling XMonad.Layout ( XMonad/Layout.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Layout.o ) > [4 of 8] Compiling XMonad.Operations ( XMonad/Operations.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Operations.o ) > [5 of 8] Compiling XMonad.ManageHook ( XMonad/ManageHook.hs, dist/build/XMonad/ManageHook.o ) > [6 of 8] Compiling XMonad.Config ( XMonad/Config.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Config.o ) > [7 of 8] Compiling XMonad.Main ( XMonad/Main.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Main.o ) > [8 of 8] Compiling XMonad ( XMonad.hs, dist/build/XMonad.o ) > /usr/bin/ar: creating dist/build/libHSxmonad-0.6.a > [ 1 of 10] Compiling Paths_xmonad ( dist/build/autogen/Paths_xmonad.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/Paths_xmonad.o ) > [ 2 of 10] Compiling XMonad.StackSet ( XMonad/StackSet.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/StackSet.o ) > [ 3 of 10] Compiling XMonad.Core ( XMonad/Core.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/Core.o ) > [ 4 of 10] Compiling XMonad.Layout ( XMonad/Layout.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/Layout.o ) > [ 5 of 10] Compiling XMonad.Operations ( XMonad/Operations.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/Operations.o ) > [ 6 of 10] Compiling XMonad.ManageHook ( XMonad/ManageHook.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/ManageHook.o ) > [ 7 of 10] Compiling XMonad.Config ( XMonad/Config.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/Config.o ) > [ 8 of 10] Compiling XMonad.Main ( XMonad/Main.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/Main.o ) > [ 9 of 10] Compiling XMonad ( XMonad.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad.o ) > [10 of 10] Compiling Main ( ./Main.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/Main.o ) > Linking dist/build/xmonad/xmonad ... > $ Shouldn't the /usr/bin/ar step use dist/build/XMonad/StackSet.o rather than compile again to dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/XMonad/StackSet.o ? Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? If it is the norm, I'd appreciate a link to where I can learn about why it's not doing what I'd expect. I'm hoping I might save my poor, slow laptop from a lot of hard thinking every time I re-compile. Thanks -- Mike

Issue 140 in xmonad: Crash when closing pidgin

Issue 140: Crash when closing pidgin http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=140 Comment #1 by SpencerJanssen: > xmonad-contrib 0.6 (although using a non-standard layout is not required for the bug to occur) Can you please double check that this is the case? This sounds like an old issue in avoidStruts (that should be fixed now). Please see if you can reproduce with the stock config only. Your xmonad.hs or a list of extensions used would also be helpful. Also, what architecture are you on? -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 140 in xmonad: Crash when closing pidgin
by codesite-noreply＠google.com 16 Feb '08

Issue 140: Crash when closing pidgin http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=140 New issue report by jeroenleeuwestein: What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Start pidgin. 2. Start a conversation, so pidgin has two visible windows. 3. Close the main pidgin window with Alt-Shift-c. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Pidgin and all conversation windows should close, and XMonad should happily rearange other windows if they exist. Instead, the XMonad session crashes. In my case, gdm presents me with a login screen. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I'm using: * xmonad 0.6 * X11 Haskell libraries 1.4.1 * xmonad-contrib 0.6 (although using a non-standard layout is not required for the bug to occur) * xmobar 0.8 (probably irrelevant) Please provide any additional information below. .xsession-errors reports a segmentation fault without further information. I'm not sure how to get more information about what goes wrong exactly. Tabbed.addTabs broken?
by Andrea Rossato 15 Feb '08

15 Feb '08

I'm writing here instead of asking over IRC because it's a bit long and I don't want to generate confusion (I'm quite too good at that...;) There are 2 patches I don't understand. This one breaks Tabbed.addTabs: Tue Feb 5 21:23:43 CET 2008 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make tabbed work nicely with LayoutCombinators and WindowNavigation. The problem is that WindowNavigation assumes all windows are navigable, and it was getting confused by decorations. With a bit of work, we can decorate windows *after* combining layouts just fine. since Tabbed now assumes that the windows to be decorated are only those with the same rectangle: wrs' = filter ((==r) . snd) wrs Which is fine only with Simplest. If you use it with some other layout (which does not give the same rectangle to all windows) then this will always hold: if length wrs' <= 1 then Nothing It also assumes the decoration to have the same y coordinate of the window to be decorated - the window must be shrunk. That is to say, if we were to remove the first constraint, we would end up with a SimpleDecoration layout modifier. :) But, as far as I understand, this is needed for WindowNavigation (I do not understand well its code, and I didn't have time to study it). Which brings me to this patch: Tue Feb 5 21:35:56 CET 2008 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make WindowNavigation ignore decorations. where you check the stack to see if a window is a decoration. There is also another way to check if a window is a decoration, by checking its attributes (isDecoration :: Window -> X Bool does this). I'm writing because I wonder if we can remove that constrain from Tabbed and solve the WindowNavigation problem in another way. If yes, I can do it (I'll study WindowNavigation). Please David, can you give me some directions? Thanks, Andrea ps: this is the reason why I rewrote the instance in DecorationMadness, with a note that those layouts could be incompatible with WindowNavigation: now that the mouse UI is almost finished, I'd like to get this (hopefully last big) issue solved too.

xmobar time stops when system clock turns back
by Adam Vogt 13 Feb '08

13 Feb '08

I guess that this place is the best to report this issue: You just have to set your clock back a couple seconds (or more), and the time display doesn't update immediately. Going forward is fine. I think that when you pass the time that is 'stuck' on xmobar, it sometimes starts updating again. Not that this is much of a problem, I think that it is still a bug, the workaround being to restart xmobar.

Issue 139: keyboard focus stolen by urxvt's url matcher http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=139 New issue report by vogt.adam: What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. In your Xdefaults specify urxvt*perl-ext-common: default, matcher urxvt*matcher.button: 1 urxvt*urlLauncher: firefox 2. Click on an underlined hyperlink; firefox then opens a tab/window What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Keyboard focus goes to firefox, while the highlighted border stays where it was. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? ghc 6.8.2, darcs (as of 12 february) core and contrib. Please provide any additional information below.
