Minor problem with fullscreen games and XMonad.Layout.NoBorders

I have the following layout hook, for getting things working with gnome-panel and so that fullscreen games don't get assigned a border: layoutHook = smartBorders $ ewmhDesktopsLayout $ avoidStruts $ layoutHook defaultConfig Then I have the following in my manage hook: title =? "Brood War" --> doFloat This mostly works, my fullscreen games are fullscreen as they should be and there is no border. UNLESS, I am on a workspace where no other windows are open. Then the border still appears. So to play my game, I open an empty terminal, then launch it. That way there are no borders. But if the game is the only window, the border is still there. Anyway to fix that and/or is this a bug?

hi, how can we list the name of all windows in all workspaces? sometimes i want to locate a window but its frustrating to check every workspace one by one. thanks lars

YAML x config. files

Hi, Why not to use YAML, YAML Ain't a Markup Language, with XMonad's configuration files? ... Don't faint, there is no need to use full blown YAML. It could even be added *transparently*, i.e., as a separate program generating Haskell output. Why?, because YAML's format is _truly_ human-readable (and concise), there is no Lua or whatever that can be better. And, in our context (reduced/subset YAML), a snap to learn and grasp. I am using myself my 'cqac' program written in Perl (celerius quam asparagi cocuntur, more swiftly than asparagus is cooked, a favorite expression of Augustus to say that something was done quickly), which is an implementation and extension of the Blackbox window manager original menu (nop's inclusive). 'cqac' uses X::Osd (Perl extension to the X On Screen Display library, xosd), no mouse, YAML::Tiny, and, unfortunately, X11::Protocol ... from the latter I need exclusively Grab- and UngrabKeyboard, hence I am thinking to put the original X11::Protocol on *diet*, and skim unnecessary fat away. Anyway, 'cqac', which at present still uses YAML::Tiny in-line, i.e., still reads its '.yml'-configuration file on the flight, and uses the original, jumbo-sized X11::Protocol is reasonably fast (on a okay/acceptable/no-ancient notebook) ... in Perl!, and with a no-toy cqac.yml. (Well, for that I also have nicknamed it like I have.) There is nothing more annoying than to being obliged to pass from the stage of *inheriting* default setups or monkeying setups from guru X, master Y, and wizard Z, *merging* and *pruning* a' la trial and error m more or less mysterious configuration files until one learns to read--and write--Haskell, Lua, whatever. (No, in ten minutes reading and studying one learns what there is to know to use YAML::Tiny's format, just in case; quicker than memorizing all the meta chars to use a given window manager. Better still: one doesn't need to *restudy* Haskell, Lua, whatever if, after m months, he decides to modify the configuration file ... _and_ he doesn't use Haskell, Lua, whatever n hours a day.) Calling all unapplied patches!

I have quite a few emails in my xmonad box, going back almost a year, containing patches with no follow-up emails. It's quite likely that many of these were superseded by other patches, decided against in a separate thread, or the like. However, it also seems quite likely that some of them fell through the cracks. If you know of any unapplied patches -- either ones that you submitted, or ones that you know of and would really like to be applied -- please re-send them to the list (making sure that there are no conflicts with the most recent darcs). I have some time at the moment, so I can take a look. -Brent

Hi all, Just wanted to say Thanks! to everyone for XMonad. I've got it running with gnome for the panels but it blows the gnome WM out of the water. I did run across some functionality I wanted that didn't exist so I wrote it up (attached). On reflection I should have added a long patch message. I found WindowGo for runOrRaise but often I want to pull a window (browser, mail, etc) to my current workspace instead of going to the one it's in. copyOrRun (and underlying copyMaybe) do that. Odd behaviour of Combo and Tabbed

I've been enjoying xmonad, building layouts with Combo, but it isn't doing quite what I expect. code: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- import XMonad.Layout.Tabbed import XMonad.Layout.DragPane import XMonad.Layout.Combo import XMonad.Layout.Named myBasicTabbed = named "KA Tabbed" $ tabbedAlways shrinkText myTheme myVertPane = dragPane Vertical 0.1 0.5 myDuplexTall = named "Duplex Tall" (combineTwo myVertPane myBasicTabbed myBasicTabbed) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note that I am using "tabbedAlways" because I always want tabs on my windows. Using the myDuplexTall layout, this is what I expect: With one window: window in whole area, tab on the window With two windows: two columns, side by side, tabs on both windows What I get: With one window: window in whole area, NO tab on the window (incorrect) With two windows: two columns, side by side, tabs on both windows (correct) With other, more complex layouts, the pattern seems to be that tabs are displayed one fewer than one would expect. For example, here's a three-window layout: myDuplexWide = named "Duplex Wide" (combineTwo myHorizPane myBasicTabbed myBasicTabbed) myTrioTabbed = named "Trio" (combineTwo myVertPane myBasicTabbed myDuplexWide) What I get: With one window: window in whole area, NO tab on the window (incorrect) With two windows: two columns, side by side, tab on one window, no tab on the second window (incorrect) With three windows: tabs on all windows (correct) Why is this happening, and what can I do to fix it? darcs patch: ManageHelpers, reduce duplicated code in predicates

This patch adds a helper function isInProperty to reduce the duplicated code in isFullscreen and isDialog of ManageHelpers. Next step: making ManageDocks use this function or similar to avoid more duplication. Next next step: pushing this helpers (or in another way) into core, I think that providing a common way of doing certain things helps avoiding code duplication in Contrib. byebye! P.S: (this is my first code patch, so be gentle :) )
