xmonad always requires reloading after reboot...

Hello everyone, I've been using xmonad for around 6 months, both at work and at home, and I think it's pretty much the best thing since the proverbial sliced bread. I'm just having one small problem that I wanted to ask for some advice on: I use xmonad with xfce4, mainly for the toolbar and also for a few additional plugins, and the extremely-useful mod-p launcher. Recently I've changed the mod key in ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs to mod4 (the windows key) because using alt was clashing with some other programmes, but this unfortunately stopped my beloved mod-p from functioning, (using either the old alt-p or the expected new mod4-p). I wanted this function mapped to mod4-p, so I tried remapping this key combination in xmonad.hs to spawn the correct process when I hit mod4-p, and this works fine, -except- that it only works after reloading xmonad.hs (mod4-q) after every startup. The mod4 key works perfectly except for this, and after reloading xmonad mod4-p works exactly as expected, so I was just wondering if anyone has any idea why it needs reloading each time? I've tried looking around the appropriate xmonad pages, and have so far not found any solutions, so thought I'd ask around a bit further. Testing XMonad configurations

Hi, I'm playing with different configurations and Layouts in xmonad but it is very slow to close session in order to see how changes look like. Is there any way to test xmonad configuration more straightforwardly? Perhaps using xvnc and exporting xmonad's DISPLAY to it? How do you do it when developing?

Cabal install problem

Hi everyone I have some problem for install 'cabal-install package' I downloaded and succesfully build a binary source ghc-7.0.2. Then I want to install cabal-0.10.2 and ı see some warning and last output like this Linking Setup ... Configuring Cabal-1.10.1.0... Setup: At least the following dependencies are missing: base >=4 && <3 && >=2 && <5, unix >=2.0 && <2.5 Error during cabal-install bootstrap: Configuring the Cabal package failed Then ı want to use cabal-0.8 and output like this Linking Setup ... Configuring Cabal-1.8.0.2... Possible bug in XMonad.Util.Scratchpad

Hi everyone I'm using XMonad.Util.Scratchpad and it seems like there's an issue related to the focusing of windows while a scratchpad window is opened. Best way to reproduce the issue is by using a simple tabbed layout from XMonad.Layout.Tabbed. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open two distinguishable windows w0 and w1 2. Open a (floating) scratchpad window while w0 is focused 3. Directly focus w1 (without changing the focus to any other window) 4. Move the focus back to the scratchpad window Notice how w0 is briefly focued after moving the focus back to the scratchpad window, bringing w0 to the foreground (instead of w1 staying on top). Seems like the focus always drops back to the window which was focused just before the scratchpad windows is opened. I hope this somehow explains the problem that I'm experiencing. Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 473 by andre.ra...(a)gmail.com: Enhancement to GridSelect http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=473 There is a function in XMonad.Actions.GridSelect named "spawnSelected" that allows the user to select a command from a list and then spawns it. The "problem" with this function is that'll use the same String twice: you can't give a "title" to a command. So I suggest that a new function is created, one that'll take [(String,String)] as argument. The first String from the tuple specifies the "pretty name" of the command, and the second one specifies the command to be spawned. For instance: spawnSelected' defaultGSConfig [("Messenger", "pidgin"), ("Mail", "chromium --app=http://gmail.com/")] would show a selection grid showing "Messenger" and "Mail", but that would execute "pidgin" or "chromium --app=http://gmail.com/" depending on which I chose. It can be made with only a simple modification to spawnSelected, but I don't know how it should be named, so for now I'm calling it spawnSelected'. spawnSelected' :: GSConfig String -> [(String, String)] -> X () spawnSelected' conf lst = gridselect conf lst >>= flip whenJust spawn

Bind action to meta key clicked by itself?

Hello, Is it possible to bind an action to when the meta key (in my case the "Windows key") is pressed by itself in addition to combinations / sequences it's a part of? Thanks - John

This is 100% reproducible on one box and 100% unreproducible on the other two boxes, all running XMonad on Debian.

Unable to paste into appendFilePrompt

Hello all, I really like the utility XMonad.Prompt.AppendFile and have setup up a series of reminder files that are appendable through XMonad.Actions.Submap. It seems however, that I cannot paste into the prompt that comes up. That is I can't use ctrl-v or middle click. It turns out that I actually want to do this quite a bit. Is there something I am overlooking or is there a workaround/another method to get the same general functionality. I am an extreme novice when it comes to haskell. Thanks Jesse

Two dashes freeze shellPrompt

Hi, does anybody else experienced the strange shellPrompt lockup after two consecutive dashes are entered ? 1) invoke XMonad.Prompt.Shell.shellPrompt with defaultXPConfig 2) type anywhere two dashes ("--") in Run: prompt 3) prompt stalls and stops responding Just asking if somebody can confirm so I may fill a bug report. xmonad-contrib ver. 0.9.2 David

Comment #2 on issue 322 by sgsoftware: Background shown when workspace switches http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=322 I am not sure that this is strictly an X server problem since I've got similar behavior after upgrading xmonad from version 0.8.1 to version 0.9. Apparently something has changed in between and now xmonad draws background so that it is very noticeable (and quite annoying).
