pandoc

Hi, I don't understand why haskell-pandoc has ghc and all these haskell-* packages as dependencies. Surely some of them are only makedependencies, right? Also, I think pandoc should remain in [community]. However, the haskell overlay is already providing packages for haskell-pandoc. A possible solution is to adopt haskell-pandoc and its dependencies, moving them to community, while adding a replaces=(pandoc) and provides=(pandoc) to haskell-pandoc. Another thing I noted is that the pandoc 0.46 PKGBUILD in the haskell overlay misses a depends=(gmp) (namcap shows it's required). So the packages from the overlay can not always be used as-is. distributing documentation

I came from Debian world. One of things I like in Debian is mandatory documentation for each package. In arch there seems to be another practice -- I don't have /usr/share/doc at all. I don't know whether arch has some policy concerning documentation, but can't we do better at least in arch-haskell land? I mean to include haddock docs in haskell packages. For me it sounds abusive, that having packages installed I need to search Internet for their documentation. -- Roman I. Cheplyaka :: http://ro-che.info/ kzm: My program contains a bug. And the point of the package system is to make Haskell things available to non-Haskell users -- those who don't already have a full toolchain installed. Given the docs are already been pre-generated for us on hackage.haskell.org, for each package, we could just suck those down. -- Don

Happenings of late

Hi, Not much to report for me. There was a huge ncurses update that required an upgrade of ghc to 6.8.2-2. Nothing changed there, just a rebuild. We thought of going to 6.8.3, but decided not to due to some issues that have been reported against it. 6.10 should be just around the corner, though. I noticed that our ghc isn't built with the typical "distribution" optimization set, so I added that. That change didn't get to 6.8.2-2, though. And just recently, I updated xmonad, xmonad-contrib to 0.8 and uploaded to i686. I'll upload x86_64 on monday. --vk
