Package Signing
by Xyne 01 Aug '12

01 Aug '12

Hi Magnus, It's time to nag you again about package signing. I can give you a script to batch sign packages, run repo-add, then sign the generated repo with a single passphrase prompt. Obviously I don't know how well that fits with your current release method, but it should be possible to set something up that is minimally invasive and I'll gladly help if I can. Regards, Xyne

Handling cabal-install flags
by Alessandro Pezzoni 30 Jul '12

30 Jul '12

Hello, I'm trying to add a pacakage for Yi [1,2] to habs (at least to my working copy) and I'm facing a dilemma, as it uses some cabal-install flags to change build-depends and exposed-modules, among other things. Should I heavily patch the cabal file, e.g. by removing some conditionals, or is there some proper way to handle this? Thanks, Alessandro [1] https://github.com/yi-editor/yi [2] http://hackage.haskell.org/package/yi

Current procedure to install Hakyll (with deps)
by Mateusz Loskot 29 Jul '12

29 Jul '12

Hi, This is my first post here, so hello everyone! I'm fairly experienced with Arch ecosystem, but I'm new to Haskell. I'm going to start some Haskell hacking for Hakyll. I have shopped around, read the ArchHaskell and Haskell Package Guidelines on Arch wiki, Hakyll docs, etc. Although, it is completely unclear to me what is the current and up to date procedure of Haskell installation. My impression is that the Haskell packages are scattered between three locations: "Haskell is well supported on Arch Linux, with GHC (...) available via the official repositories, a growing number of packages made available by the ArchHaskell group (...) available in the AUR." later in the wiki states: "The [haskell] repository is the official repository of packages maintained by the ArchHaskell team." There also is "Guidelines" section which explains how to cook own Arch packages from cabal, so I'd assume it is fourth option. (It does not say anything about "Guidelines" section being dedicated to package developers/maintainers.) I guess, I can even omit Arch packages and use cabal only too. In AUR, number of packages I'm interested in are marked out of date. So, here comes my question: Considering I'm interested in Hakyll, could anyone recommend where should I grab all the related packages and required dependencies from? Best regards, -- Mateusz Loskot, http://mateusz.loskot.net

Using makeahpkg
by Alessandro Pezzoni 27 Jul '12

27 Jul '12

Hello, I'm trying to use the 'makehapkg' script to build Haskell packages, as suggested by Magnus Therning, but I'm having some issues with it. Though it works fine for packages without dependencies other than ghc, like haskell-xdg-basedir (not currently in habs), it fails to install extra dependencies prior to building, e.g.: $./makeahpkg haskell-data-accessor [...] ==> Making package: haskell-data-accessor 0.2.2.2-1 (Wed Jul 25 12:14:10 UTC 2012) ==> Checking runtime dependencies... ==> Installing missing dependencies... sudo: effective uid is not 0, is sudo installed setuid root? ==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies. ==> ERROR: Build failed, check /home/bexie/my-habs/x86_64-chroot/build/build As I don't have any kind of experience with chroots I'm quite at a loss here. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance, Alessandro

It appears to me that http://xsounds.org/~haskell/ is down (403). Just wanted to report this in case it was an easy fix. - Stephen

Secondary repository for arch-haskell
by Fabio Riga 13 Jul '12

Hi archhaskellers! Long time ago I wrote in this list about the idea of using cblrepo for maintaining two or more repositories. Well, you can find the results here: https://github.com/EffeErre/habs-extra . The main idea is that every needed package already present in haskell repo is added as a DistroPkg. This is done via a script that uses both *cblrepo* and *cabal install* to find dependencies and latest available packages. I will put the script on github as soon as possible. At the moment it can check only a main cblrepo.db and work in another one. It should check many cblrepo.db files in order to be really useful. After some (*very slow*) testing, I ended up with a "haskell-extra" repo. You can find it here: http://archhaskell.mynerdside.com/haskell-extra/x86_64/. They are mainly web-related package: snap, yesod, hakyll, mighttpd2... IMHO there's no need for a different repository: it would be better to merge this in main [haskell]. Hope this can be helpful, Fabio

Status of OpenGL in Arch Haskell?
by gdweber＠iue.edu 12 Jul '12

12 Jul '12

"hoko" requested adding the OpenGL package and others in issue #73 on archhaskell/habs. I made a pull request (issue #82) two weeks ago which would add OpenGL and related packages. I'm puzzled by the lack of response (no comments or other action). Does it mean: - The addition of OpenGL is unwelcome? - My commits need improvement before they can be pulled? Please tell me how.* - The habs maintainers are very busy? If this is the case, I'm sorry to be a pest. I'm a little nervous about its being "closed due to age" like #52. *From somewhere I have the impression that I should "rebase" my branch onto master, maybe something like this: $ git checkout master $ git pull upstream # upstream is archhaskell/habs $ git push myfork master # myfork is gdweber/habs $ git checkout opengl # opengl is my topic branch $ git rebase master $ git push myfork opengl But there is a very stern warning, "Do not rebase commits that you have pushed to a public repository" from the Pro Git book, http://git-scm.com/book/en/Git-Branching-Rebasing so I'm hesitant to do that without explicit instructions. I'm very inexperienced with git. -- Gregory D. Weber, Ph. D. : Associate Professor of Informatics / \ Indiana University East 0 : Tel. X11 1.6
by Stephen Crane 01 Jul '12

01 Jul '12

Any chance of getting haskell-x11 updated to 1.6? It's updated in the community repo, but I don't think I can mix the two. I'm trying to recompile xmobar and this requires X11 1.6. Thanks! - Stephen
