Re: [arch-haskell] [arch-general] Haskell Support Was: Xmonad version?

There was a recent Arch-Haskell thread about dumping most of AUR Haskell packages: http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/arch-haskell/2011-November/001744.html As an end user, I effectively ignore the official Arch Haskell packages as they are so far out of date. I'm also now trying to disregard most of the AUR since I came across that thread. Haskell is starting to feel fragile on Arch. What about moving *all* Haskell related packages to the Haskell Arch repo? All the Haskell Platform stuff, alex, happy, etc. Ethan Schoonover Github/Freenode: altercation - Solarized: http://ethanschoonover.com/solarized On Sat, Dec 17, 2011 at 13:44, Ionut Biru <biru.ionut(a)gmail.com> wrote: > On 12/17/2011 11:41 PM, Bernardo Barros wrote: >> Haskell platform was released with the latest stable GHC (7.0.4 of course). >> >> Guys, what's happening with haskell support in Arch? >> >> Xmonad, and now GHC and lots of packages in the supported repos are >> not keeping update with upstream. > > i vote for dropping xmonad and all packages to aur and let the community > handle them. > > it seems we are not doing a great job at keeping them up to date. > > -- > Ionuț

haskell-testing
by Fabio Riga 09 Jan '12

Hi, following a long discussion about ghc version and haskell-platform, I started a repo builded with ghc-7.2.2. I compiled about 140 packages from [extra], [community] and [haskell] for the x86_64 arch. Now I'm using this and all seems okay. If anybody want to have a look here is a copy: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12100416/haskell-testing/x86_64/index.html To make this work you should put the repo *before* extra and community and make a pacman -Rcs ghc before installing anything. Cheers Fabio

ArchLinux GHC and LLVM?
by Magnus Therning 04 Jan '12

I just recently noticed that GHC in ArchLinux is compiled with the LLVM backend support: $ ghc --info |grep llvm ,("Have llvm code generator","YES") However, can it be made to work on Arch? $ cat Mains.hs module Main where main = return () $ ghc --make -fllvm Mains.hs [1 of 1] Compiling Main ( Mains.hs, Mains.o ) opt: /tmp/ghc14739_0/ghc14739_0.ll:7:78: error: argument attributes invalid in function type @Main_main_closure = global %Main_main_closure_struct <{i64 ptrtoint (void (i64* noalias nocapture,i64* noalias nocapture,i64* noalias nocapture,i64 ,i64 ,i64 ,i64,i64 ,i64 ,i64 ,float ,float ,float ,float ,double ,double )* @Main_main_info to i64),i64 0,i64 0,i64 0}> /M -- Magnus Therning OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4 email: magnus(a)therning.org jabber: magnus(a)therning.org twitter: magthe http://therning.org/magnus

Upgrading to monad-control-0.3
by Nicolas Pouillard 04 Jan '12

Hello, To package the latest and greatest version of git-annex I need to have monad-control-0.3. However this depend on the update of yesod and would break mongoDB as well. I'm quite short on times these days and would like to know if this is gonna happen soon or not? In the meantime I email the author of the mongoDB haskell package. All the best, -- Nicolas Pouillard http://nicolaspouillard.fr
