Removing temp GHC 7.4.1 + hosting
by Adrien Haxaire 25 Mar '12

25 Mar '12

Hello, Is it ok if I remove the files located at arch.adrienhaxaire.org? They are the compiled repo for GHC 7.4.1-2 for i686. I think it is quite outdated now. I am still ok for hosting a mirror of the arch-haskell repos, if it is needed. I have some free space that I'd be glad to share. I think I can also accept different ssh connections (with the right file permissions it should be fine) with my hosting service. Best regards, Adrien -- Adrien Haxaire www.adrienhaxaire.org | @adrienhaxaire

haskell-x11 not built with Xinerama
by Stephen Crane 16 Mar '12

16 Mar '12

As far as I can tell, haskell-x11 in the [haskell] repo is not built with Xinerama on x86_64: $ ghc -e Graphics.X11.Xinerama.compiledWithXinerama False Any chance we can get this flag turned on? If this isn't the right place to report this, please let me know where would be. Thanks, Stephen

Error installing haskell-http, XMonad etc.
by AbdulSattar Mohammed 15 Mar '12

When I run sudo pacman -S xmonad I get this error: warning: xmonad-0.10-3 is up to date -- reinstalling resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... Targets (1): xmonad-0.10-3 Total Installed Size: 6.82 MiB Net Upgrade Size: 0.00 MiB Proceed with installation? I don't know how I did that. They do not show up in ghc-pkg list. And that is the error that's being reported. From the above message I gather that these packages are not actually installed, pacman thinks they are and ghc thinks they are not. I should make pacman think they are not installed and reinstall them again. Or it might be other way around. They *are* actually present (most probably indicated by the Net Upgrade Size: 0.00 MiB). Pacman could be right but those packages are not registered with ghc. Then I should find a way to register those packages with ghc. I think, the register.sh, unregister.sh in /usr/share/haskell folder allow me to do that. But before I realized this, I deleted the whole folder thinking it'd regenerate itself when I install them again. I know that was stupid. I tried removing those packages using pacman -R haskell-http etc. They won't get removed. Same error. I have one solution in mind, install cabal-install and install all those packages via cabal-install. Then, they'd get registered with ghc-pkg and removing them or reinstalling them via pacman would be possible. But I'm sure there's a better way. Can you tell me which one it is? P.S: I think (I'm not sure) this situation got created when I ran pacman -S ghc after I installed all these pacakges. Could this be the problem or I'm talking nonsense? -- Warm Regards, AbdulSattar Mohammed

The PKGBUILD provides array
by Xyne 09 Mar '12

09 Mar '12

Hi, Sorry if I missed an explanation, but why has the provides array been removed from packages such as ghc? They may be unnecessary for internal consistency of packages in [haskell], but they make things much easier for other packagers to ensure that dependencies are satisfied. I hope that these can be put back. Thanks, Xyne

Future of arch-haskell.
by Thomas Dziedzic 08 Mar '12

08 Mar '12

Hi, I recently found out arch-haskell has completely split from using archlinux. I was wondering what your future plans are for arch-haskell as you have become a completely separate entity. (providing all your own packages) I expressed in a previous mail that I would like to work together rather than having you guys split off from arch completely, but that is your choice. I also read some mails on this ml about getting official status. Splitting off completely and not communicating your intentions with me is not going to get you an official status if that is your intention. Instead, communication and coordination with me is crucial for that to have any chance. I am still for working together, but we need to start talking if you also want to work together. Otherwise, I wish this community the very best of luck if you choose to completely split. Cheers!

Unable to install haskell-hlint
by Philip Müller 08 Mar '12

08 Mar '12

Hey everybody, after upgrading to ghc 7.4 (from the official repos) I can't install haskell-hlint from [haskell]. It seems to require ghc=7.4.1-5 while my ghc is 7.4.1-2. What's wrong? $ sudo pacman -S haskell-hlint resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: haddock: requires ghc=7.4.1-2 :: haskell-ghc-paths: requires ghc=7.4.1-2 :: haskell-xhtml: requires ghc=7.4.1-2 $ pacman -Si haskell-hlint Repository : haskell Name : haskell-hlint Version : 1.8.24-3 URL : http://community.haskell.org/~ndm/hlint/ Licenses : GPL Groups : None Provides : None Depends On : ghc=7.4.1-5 haskell-cpphs=1.13.3-4 haskell-haskell-src-exts=1.11.1-4 haskell-hscolour=1.19-4 haskell-transformers=0.2.2.0-5 haskell-uniplate=1.6.6-4 Optional Deps : None Conflicts With : None Replaces : None ... $ pacman -Qi ghc Name : ghc Version : 7.4.1-2 ...

Instructions on navigating the current pkgs issues.
by Michael Katelman 08 Mar '12

08 Mar '12

Hi, I am wondering if someone can point me to instructions that might allow me to navigate the current issues with ghc-related pkgs? Basically, when I type pacman -Syu, it doesn't work and it would be great if instead what it did was act normal and update my installed packages. I'd provide more detail on my particular error message etc., but I have a totally plain haskell-platform install plust stuff I've installed through cabal and it seems like it's probably obvious to those involved why that no longer works and causes pacman to freak out. >From what little I've gathered reading some posts on this list and elsewhere, there seems to be some disagreement over what goes where and why. It sounds really important and I'm sure that, in its own way, it's fascinating. However, with limited time on my hands, what would be absolutely awesome is if some instructions showed up that told me how to magically move back to a tenable arch installation without becoming deeply entrenched in the "whys" for the changes. Thanks in advance!
