Compiling large-memory programs in HABS (gitit available for those with RAM)

gitit 0.8 came out yesterday, and thanks to its upgrade to happstack 6, can now be built on the current set of HABS packages. Provided you have at least 4 GB of RAM, I'm guessing. It looks like the linking the executable stage takes up 2.5 GB of RAM, and it's not going to build in any reasonable amount of time on my 64-bit 2GB box. I was going to try dynamically linking it, but the command-line option for that doesn't seem support in the installed version of Cabal. http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/600 So, I was thinking of firing up a Large (7.5 GB) EC2 instance to compile it. Does a similar option exist for 32-bit? gitit is a nice tool to run, but the build requirements might put off casual usage - this is a real advantage to having pre-built binary packages available. Also, in the future, should I throw in a heads up when packages take say, over 1GB of RAM to build? -Leif Warner

GHC 7.0.3 Status?

Does anyone know what the status is for GHC 7.0.3 for archlinux is, I am currently unable to do Haskell work on my new x64 laptop due to a package thats unable to install (utf8-light) on ghc 7.0.2 on 64 bit systems For those interest, I get the issue described here http://hpaste.org/46052/utf8light and here http://osdir.com/ml/general/2011-04/msg14304.html Its apparently fixed in ghc 7.0.3 Thanks

Leksah depends on haddock which isn't listed in ghc-pkg

I was trying to add the IDE Leksah, and some of the parts have dependencies on specific versions of haddock. Haddock is provided by the ghc package, but it's not listed in ghc-pkg list. I can take the lines mentioning haddock dependencies out of .cabal files (since that's provided anyways), but some of the source files, e.g. line 150 of src/IDE/Metainfo/SourceCollectorH.hs in the leksah-server package, have cpp directives like: #if MIN_VERSION_haddock(2,8,0) Is there some kind of workaround for this? Let it know haddock is already there? Patch those files myself to the appropriate haddock version? -Leif Warner
