hello, I wrote a script for easily add new packages to my habs repo. I'd be happy if you have a look at it and tell me if my approach to building packages is ok or if I'm horribly wrong. Note that it's rather hackish and experimental. regards dominik

What happened to darcs?

I am wondering what has happened to the darcs package -- it seems to have disappeared sometime between November 6, 2011, and today. I know I installed it on Nov. 6, 2011, and I believe it was from one of the standard repos like [community] or [extra]. >From /var/log/pacman.log: [2011-11-06 15:56] Running 'pacman -S ghc emacs-haskell-mode cabal-install darcs gnupg' ... [2011-11-06 16:00] installed darcs (2.5.2-1.1) Today, my installed version of darcs is still 2.5.2-1.1, but when I search for it darcs with pacman -- # pacman -Ss darcs gives no result, and likewise searching in the package database finds nothing -- http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?q=darcs The latest I can find any discussion about it on this mailing list is from Thomas Dziedzic on 2012-03-03, ending with this statement: "*There is no cabal-install or darcs version that is marked as stable and currently builds with ghc 7.4.1 These packages are statically linked so it shouldn't matter for now. I will be keeping an eye on these packages and waiting for upstream to provide new stable versions that builds against the latest ghc." That seems to mean that the package would remain a package, only it would not be updated for a while. But in fact my search results seem to show that it is no longer a package at all. how can I help?

My initial goal was trying to find an official-ish way to install vim plugins for Haskell, but poking around the mailing list and the git issue tracker(s), I get the impression that may be getting ahead of myself. So I ask: how can I help? I haven't found much documentation, and based on implications in the mailing list archives, it seems that the Haskell Package Guidelines [1] wiki page is out of date. Also, the habs README [2] says that current processes don't support providing ideal coverage of hackageDB. I hereby offer to organize and document a process for the Haskell Arch Linux repository. That said, if there are other things you think are higher priority, please let me know and I'll see what I can do. My opinion is that documentation is the single most important thing to encourage participation and contribution. One caveat, though: I'm not a Haskell expert, and have essentially no experience with cabal, so I might need some hand-holding, but hopefully it will be worth it. If the powers-that-be could weigh in, I'd appreciate it. Package Signing

Hi Magnus, It's time to nag you again about package signing. I can give you a script to batch sign packages, run repo-add, then sign the generated repo with a single passphrase prompt. Obviously I don't know how well that fits with your current release method, but it should be possible to set something up that is minimally invasive and I'll gladly help if I can. Regards, Xyne

Handling cabal-install flags

Hello, I'm trying to add a pacakage for Yi [1,2] to habs (at least to my working copy) and I'm facing a dilemma, as it uses some cabal-install flags to change build-depends and exposed-modules, among other things. Should I heavily patch the cabal file, e.g. by removing some conditionals, or is there some proper way to handle this? Current procedure to install Hakyll (with deps)

Hi, This is my first post here, so hello everyone! I'm fairly experienced with Arch ecosystem, but I'm new to Haskell. I'm going to start some Haskell hacking for Hakyll. I have shopped around, read the ArchHaskell and Haskell Package Guidelines on Arch wiki, Hakyll docs, etc. Although, it is completely unclear to me what is the current and up to date procedure of Haskell installation. My impression is that the Haskell packages are scattered between three locations: "Haskell is well supported on Arch Linux, with GHC (...) available via the official repositories, a growing number of packages made available by the ArchHaskell group (...) available in the AUR." later in the wiki states: "The [haskell] repository is the official repository of packages maintained by the ArchHaskell team." There also is "Guidelines" section which explains how to cook own Arch packages from cabal, so I'd assume it is fourth option. (It does not say anything about "Guidelines" section being dedicated to package developers/maintainers.) I guess, I can even omit Arch packages and use cabal only too. In AUR, number of packages I'm interested in are marked out of date. So, here comes my question: Considering I'm interested in Hakyll, could anyone recommend where should I grab all the related packages and required dependencies from? Using makeahpkg

Hello, I'm trying to use the 'makehapkg' script to build Haskell packages, as suggested by Magnus Therning, but I'm having some issues with it. Though it works fine for packages without dependencies other than ghc, like haskell-xdg-basedir (not currently in habs), it fails to install extra dependencies prior to building, e.g.: $./makeahpkg haskell-data-accessor [...] ==> Making package: haskell-data-accessor 0.2.2.2-1 (Wed Jul 25 12:14:10 UTC 2012) ==> Checking runtime dependencies... ==> Installing missing dependencies... sudo: effective uid is not 0, is sudo installed setuid root? ==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies. ==> ERROR: Build failed, check /home/bexie/my-habs/x86_64-chroot/build/build As I don't have any kind of experience with chroots I'm quite at a loss here.
