Hac phi details, and call for talks

Hi all! Hac phi will soon be upon us! We are very much looking forward to meeting everyone. Here are a few last-minute details. Much of this is already on the wiki but I thought it would be nice to have it all in one place: * The hackathon venue is Room 307 of Levine Hall, located on Walnut St. between 33rd and 34th. You should use the Walnut Street entrance; there will be signs directing you to room 307. Feel free to arrive starting at 2pm on Friday. If you are coming on Friday please try to arrive by 2:30 or 3pm since we will try to do some introductions. * If you get lost, need to be let in (the building will be locked on Saturday and Sunday), or otherwise need anything, feel free to call me at (202) 531-8646, or Daniel Wagner at (650)-353-1788. * Dinner on Friday (pizza) and lunch on Saturday and Sunday will be provided. You'll be on your own for breakfast and dinner Saturday, and breafast Sunday. We'll provide a list of places nearby where you might like to eat, and perhaps help organize dinner plans on Saturday. * Talks! We plan to have some short (15-20 minute) talks on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 2pm. Only two people are signed up to give a talk so far, so there's still room for a few more. If you'd be interested in giving a talk, let me know! There will be a projector and blackboard available. Let me know if there's anything I've left out or if you have any questions. any OS requirements for hackathon?

I don't think I will have a Linux laptop available on Hackathon weekend, will windows be ok? I have installed a lot of Haskell packages but there were some that I couldn't configure to install because of some dependencies. I tried MSYS and Cygwin. Please let me know if Linux is required or strongly recommended. Thanks, Malik

Haskell Hack Day, Edinburgh, 30 August 2009

Dear Haskellers, I am pleased to report that we will be having a Haskell Hack Day in Edinburgh, on Sunday 30 August (before the ICFP begins). The day will be held at the ICFP conference venue, the Royal College of Physicians. The Hack Day will be free and open to all. Come join us; it'll be a lot of fun! who's up for a hackathon? (ICFP, late Aug, early Sept)

Dear Haskellers, ICFP 2009 takes place from Monday 31 August to Wednesday 2 September, with the Haskell Symposium following it on 3 September. Would anybody be interested having a Haskell Hackathon during this? My thinking is that to catch people who are only going to the Haskell Symposium, the best time is the following weekend (4-6 September). Otherwise, the weekend before (29-30 August) is also an option and has the benefit of catching people before they get tired :-) Rah, rah, hackathon! 1. If possible, I'd like get a idea if there is any interest in attending such a Hackathon if it were to take place. 2. For rah-rah Hackathon to work, we need people! icfp/hackathon accomodation

All, Friends of mine are performing at the Edinburgh Fridge Festival and apparently may have a spare flat available for much of the period covering ICFP. > We will actually have a 4/5 bedroom flat which you could have for five > or six days from the 31st if it suited- would suit us as we aren't > using it but they will only hire by the week. The advantage of this one is that it may be cheaper, but it would not cover the hackathon, we'd have to find somewhere else for those two days. Hiring a shared flat is one of the cheaper and nicer ways of getting accommodation in Edinburgh around the festival time (since all the hostels and hotels will be expensive and booked up). However it has to be booked early and obviously you need to have enough people. For the poor starving students, sharing rooms within flats also works. Hac5 roundup

Dear Haskell Hackers, Many thanks to all those who attended Hac5! We had a spectacular number of participants: over 50 hackers showed up, representing several countries. Many thanks also to the organising committee and sponsors!
