The latest upgrade...
by Magnus Therning 08 Feb '11

I've just made a rather large upgrade, all due to the latest release of yesod[1]. There is a bit of a controversial issue with this though, in that two of the packages aren't buildable by the PKGBUILD that cabal2arch generates. I'll be happy to explain why, if someone is interested, but for now I've added some flags that makes it all compilable again[2]. This is of course far from ideal; manual modification of PKGBUILDs is something we *really* want to avoid! I am planning on adding the ability to add flags to cabal2arch, which would again make it possible to auto-generate the PKGBUILDs for those two packages. The downside is that we then need to document somewhere what flags are necessary for that. It's not too bad when it only concerns 2 packages, but I see a risk that the number of packages requiring flag-passing increases, and that doesn't scale very well. What are your thoughts on this? My opinion is that this route is the path of least resistance at the moment. Basically we'll need a rather major change to cabal2arch to deal with this fully automatically. /M [1] https://github.com/archhaskell/habs/commit/8dd59a66e9a39d9c66deb369e9075fa8… [2] https://github.com/archhaskell/habs/commit/36841c4b4457111eae91bd7ac4c73584… -- Magnus Therning OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4 email: magnus(a)therning.org jabber: magnus(a)therning.org twitter: magthe http://therning.org/magnus

Upgrading text?
by Magnus Therning 07 Feb '11

07 Feb '11

Rémy & Vesa, I've just spent some time working out whether we can upgrade yesod in ArchHaskell or not. Currently we can not, and it comes down to two packages: - dbus-core (in ArchHaskell so I won't discuss it more here) - text (in [extra]) yesod has a few dependencies that require text==0.11.*. The version in [extra] is 0.10.0.0. Is there any chance of getting an upgrade to text in the near future? I noticed that there is a PKGBUILD for 0.11.0.0 in ABS already, but it requires GHC 7. It does however compile with GHC6 with the obvious minor modifications. It looks like there are not packages in [extra] or [community] that depend on text (according to [1]). /M [1] http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/haskell-text/ -- Magnus Therning OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4 email: magnus(a)therning.org jabber: magnus(a)therning.org twitter: magthe http://therning.org/magnus

Please do not delete packages from andromeda.kiwilight.com
by Peter Simons 04 Feb '11

Hi guys, yesterday, I tried to install "haskell-pandoc" on a Linux/i686 machine, but Pacman was unable to download that binary package, because the file haskell-pandoc-1.6.0.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz had been deleted from the server, probably because an update to version 1.8.0.1-1 had become available. After figuring that out, I updated my database with "pacman -Sy", and that fixed the problem. Still, I would have preferred the 1.6.0.1-2 version to remain available for some reasonable grace period, like 1 or 2 weeks. Our repository is extremely small, $ du -sh ~haskell/* 75M /srv/haskell/i686 66M /srv/haskell/x86_64 ..., so I guess it won't hurt to keep older packages around for a little while even after an update. Please don't delete any packages from that repository unless there's a good reason to, i.e. that they've been outdated for (at least) several days. Thank you, Peter
