The bug has been there a long time, but has emerged now because we cut the starting size of the handle table (to make rare bugs more common). Today I learned that Cell x = ...; <possible GC> ... x ... is unsafe if x could refer to an indirection, even with conservative GC, even if there are copies of x on the stack. The fix is ugly (use a Cell * instead) but I couldn't think of anything better. cpphs now in CVS

I'd like to note, for the benefit of hugs and ghc developers, that cpphs has now been imported into cvs.haskell.org. Ross reports that Hugs can process the entirety of the hierarchical libraries using cpphs, and my nightly nhc98 builds now also use cpphs fully instead of gcc -E. cvs -d cvs.haskell.org:/home/cvs/root checkout cpphs You can make symlinks within the CVS repository if you need to, as I have already done to ensure that nhc98/src/cpphs points to the master copy of the sources.
