WinHugs installer, create shellcode log

Hi, This patch adds logging for actions created using the shell, namely shortcuts and registry keys. The only remaining patch to the installer will be to create an uninstall entry. After that it will just remain to write an uninstaller :) Thanks Neil

Hi, This patch creates a log of the actions of the installer, called install.log. Currently only file creation actions are recorded. This will be required to write an uinstaller. Thanks Neil

Hi, This patch enables the user to press cancel while installing WinHugs, which has the effect of undoing all the changes that have been made, i.e. reversing the installation. Most of these mechanisms are required for uninstaller support. Thanks Neil

WinHugs beta

Hi, I've compiled up all the WinHugs goodies, including the new installer, into an installable package. Its available at http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~ndm500/temp/WinHugs_2005-10-06.exe [17Mb]. If anyone wants to try it out, i'd be greateful to hear any feedback! http://www.haskell.org/hawiki/NeilMitchell/HugsNotes lists all the things that are "wrong" with it. The only big thing is no uninstaller, and since its installation is basically creating a directory, thats not so much of a problem (it can be uninstalled by hand with the delete key in about 10 seconds). Comments, complaints, bug reports all welcome. If you just download it and it all works fine I'd still be interested in hearing that. Thanks Neil

This increases the base installer size by 30Kb, but removes requirements on any dll's beyond those provided by standard windows 95 and above. It also toggles on a pile of size optimisations which get back 5Kb of that increase, so the end installer size is 55Kb, and entirely any windows compatible. WinHugs Installer, slightly better GUI layout

Hi, Please remove winhugs/installer/installer.aps from the CVS, it appears to be a binary file which is purely a visual studio cache - if deleted visual studio recreates it. I should have not sent it to be checked in. The attached patch fixes 3 minor human user interface issues in the installer. It lays the checkboxes out slightly better, renames "..." to "Browse" and changes the text. No code changes. I talked to an HCI person. Thanks Neil

Of course making hSetBuffering and hSetEcho work for WinHugs would be extra work.
