Plugins: How to determine ghc vs ghci

I'm working on a plugin, and would like to be able to tell if it's GHC or GHCi that's running. I tried: df <- getDynFlags let isGHCi = ghcMode df == CompManager Alas, while that correctly tells apart "ghci" from "ghc -c", it also returns True when ghc is called without the "-c" argument. Is there a better/more robust way of figuring out whether we're in an interactive session? -Levent.

warnings in stage1

Hi devs, I'm getting pattern-match warnings in my stage1 compiler. I assume that this is due to enhanced pattern-match checking. This is good! But I like to build (even stage1) with -Werror. Is this expected? Is someone working on this? Thanks! Richard

The GHC 8.0 feature freeze is coming

tl;dr: feature freeze is imminent; get any remaining patches in ASAP. Hello all, The GHC 8.0 release cycle is quickly approaching its conclusion. While there are a few patches still outstanding (most notably the no-kinds branch to which we owe the major version number bump), most everything else has at this point been merged. If you are still sitting on a patch then please post it for review as soon as possible. We will enter a formal feature freeze within the next week. If things go according to plan we will have be able to fork the 8.0 branch shortly thereafter and have a release candidate within two weeks. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this release! tyVarsOfTypeAcc

Hi devs, I'm (once again) merging master into my type=kind branch. I see that we now have tyVarsOfTypeAcc :: Type -> FV, distinct from tyVarsOfType :: Type -> TyVarSet. I trust that this new version is more performant. However, I have a question: in the implementation of these functions, the three extra FV parameters (fv_cand in_scope acc) are bound and passed each time. Why? I've always understood that eta-reducing in function definitions is better than expanding. Or is this just a style choice? Thanks, Richard

Bad interface file

Can anyone confirm that Trac #11122 is fixed in HEAD? When I try to reproduce it, I tried this, with a freshly-built HEAD cabal install parsec --with-ghc=/home/simonpj/5builds/HEAD-5/inplace/bin/ghc-stage2 But that fails as below, with a bizarre “bad interface file” error. Haddock is a constant mystery. I added five lines of comments to GHC's source code, and one of the Haddock performance tests fails (see below). That's all the patch contains. I am reluctant to fix it by deleting the comments! ok to do reformatting commits?

When I was doing a recent patch, I was annoyed by lint errors about >80 lines when I was just conforming to the existing style. To avoid cluttering my commit with unrelated changes, I decided to fix the lints in a formatting-only commit afterwards. Looking in the archives, I see there was some recent discussion about this, but I didn't see anyone volunteering to just go wrap a bunch of files, or saying that they didn't want anyone to do this (usual reason being cluttering the history, which as a rationale to not do formatting only changes never sat too well with me). Would anyone mind if I went and wrapped a bunch of files, say typecheck/*.hs? This seems simpler than either constant hassling from arc or coming up with more elaborate rules for arc. I would have to make some formatting decisions, so likely to some eyes I would be messing some stuff up, but since there's no real standard that is probably unavoidable.
